An Arizona attic in July is a furnace. Surface temperatures of 140–160°F are routine, and that heat radiates straight down through your insulation, working against everything your AC is trying to do. A properly installed attic fan vents that hot air out and pulls cooler outside air in through the soffits, dropping attic temperatures by 30–50°F.

Fast Track Heating and Cooling installs solar and electric attic fans across the Phoenix Metro. It's one of the highest-ROI upgrades you can make for under $1,000, and it pays back in lower cooling costs and longer roof life.

    How attic fans work

An attic fan sits on the roof or in a gable vent and exhausts hot air out of the attic space. Cooler outside air is pulled in through soffit vents to replace it, creating constant air movement that prevents heat buildup. The fan runs whenever attic temperature exceeds a thermostat setpoint (typically 100°F), so it works hardest exactly when your AC is working hardest.

On a 110°F day in Mesa, an unvented attic can hit 160°F. With a proper attic fan installed, that same attic stays in the 110–120°F range — close to outdoor temperature instead of dramatically above it.

Solar vs. electric — which to choose

Solar attic fans need no wiring (zero added electricity cost), qualify for the federal residential clean energy tax credit, and come with long warranties (often 15–25 years on the panel). Electric attic fans move slightly more air per dollar of upfront cost but add a small electricity load.

In Arizona, where sun is abundant exactly when the fan is needed most, solar is usually the better choice. We install both depending on roof orientation, shading, and your preference.

Beyond cooling — the roof life benefit

Asphalt shingles bake. Composition shingles in a 160°F attic break down faster than the same shingles in a 120°F attic. Adding an attic fan can extend roof life by years and reduce thermal expansion stress on roof decking, fasteners, and flashing.

    Serving the Entire Phoenix Metro

Phoenix-area homes built before 2000 frequently have inadequate attic ventilation — passive ridge and soffit venting alone isn't enough for our climate. Adding active ventilation pays back fast across Mesa, Tempe, Phoenix, Scottsdale, and the rest of the Valley.

From dense Phoenix neighborhoods to spread-out Queen Creek acreage, our trucks run the entire Valley every day. We know which subdivisions have undersized return ducts, which Mesa zip codes still have R-22 systems hanging on, and which Scottsdale custom builds were finished with two-stage equipment that needs specialized parts.

Cities we regularly serve include Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale, Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, Queen Creek, Apache Junction, Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills, Ahwatukee, plus surrounding East Valley and West Valley communities. If you're inside the 101, 202, or 303 loop, we can usually be at your door the same day you call.
